Sewer
In 2025 Springfield connected to the Sarpy County and Cities Wastewater Agency and began retiring its 50-year-old treatment plant. Flows now go to Omaha’s treatment facility near Bellevue. The city still owns and maintains the sewer mains.

Your sewer line
Springfield’s code makes the owner repair the sewer connection up to and including where it joins the public main. Repairs require two inspections by the city superintendent.

Sewer billing
Sewer rates are set each year from your average water use in December, January and February. Separate lawn-sprinkler meters carry no sewer fee, and taking one out of service requires a licensed contractor or plumber.

Backflow
Springfield’s code adopts the 2012 International Plumbing Code. Backflow devices are the consumer’s responsibility and expense, with annual testing of all double check valves and reduced pressure zone devices.
