Water
Bellevue gets its drinking water from the Metropolitan Utilities District (MUD). MUD lime-softens it to about 10 grains per gallon; its 2025 water quality report gives an average of 9 (range 8 to 13). Those are figures for MUD’s whole system, not a test of Bellevue taps. MUD says the property owner owns and maintains the water service line into the house.

Sewer
Bellevue’s Wastewater Department runs the city sewers. The sewage is treated at Omaha’s Papio and Missouri River treatment plants. Street runoff and roof drains are kept out of the sanitary sewer. For a problem in the city sewer, the department’s number is 402-293-3135.

Your sewer line
The pipe from your house to the city main (the lateral) is yours. Bellevue’s homeowner guide on sewer backups says its maintenance and repair are the owner’s responsibility, and suggests a backflow prevention valve on the lowest drains in the house.

Permits
Clearing a stoppage or repairing a leak needs no permit. Replacing a defective trap or a drain, waste or vent pipe counts as new work and needs one, from Permits & Inspections at 1510 Wall St (402-293-3014). Bellevue adopted the 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code in May 2021.

Upon inspection, a leak was detected near the water meter. We identified a leaking 1-inch brass nipple measuring 5 1/2 inches in length. After removing the faulty nipple, we replaced it along with the 90-degree fitting, ensuring everything operates correctly without leaks.
A leaking pipe created an issue that needed immediate attention. We promptly replaced the damaged pipe with a new one, ensuring a solid and secure connection. This solution effectively resolved the leak, restoring functionality and providing peace of mind for the customer.
A malfunctioning shut-off valve on the toilet was causing issues. We replaced the broken valve to restore proper functionality, ensuring the toilet operates smoothly once again. This repair eliminates any leaks and prevents further plumbing problems.
A blockage was affecting the mainline running from the cleanout in the basement bathroom. We successfully cleared the line, extending 35 feet out and running a significant amount of water through it. The line is now open, and nothing was pulled back during the process.
